TSSA (Technical Standards & Safety Authority) is the provincial body that regulates gas work in Ontario. A TSSA-registered contractor is legally authorized to install, repair, and maintain natural gas systems and appliances. Hiring an unregistered contractor is illegal and can void your home insurance.
G2 certifies a technician to work on residential gas appliances like furnaces, water heaters, and fireplaces. G1 is a higher-level licence that covers larger, high-pressure commercial and industrial gas systems. SmileHVAC technicians hold both levels.
The Red Seal is a nationally recognized trade certification in Canada. 313A (Refrigeration Mechanic) covers commercial refrigeration systems, while 313D (Domestic/Commercial A/C Mechanic) covers residential and light-commercial air conditioning. Both are issued through the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
